The drag system is designed for high loads. It is adjusted with an adjustment dial on the handle side, which allows for fine-tuning even with gloves on during winter fishing. The engineered drag - more precisely: a slip clutch - is large-area. This is particularly important for safely fighting large fish. A special manufacturing step guarantees that the spool runs smoothly with the desired drag performance even at high rotational speeds. The "slip stick" effect is thus also minimized. This is necessary for fast-running fish and contributes significantly to protecting the drag material.

A special feature of the R.A.G. reel series' drag system is the function called "run control": if you grasp the reel housing with your hand and press the drag adjustment dial, the previously set drag force is reduced - finely adjustable and continuously - almost to idle! A built-in protection ensures that the spool cannot overrun if the tension suddenly decreases. This refinement offers an enormous advantage in the event of an extreme rush from a good fish, e.g., immediately after hook-set, when it cannot be held anyway. The risk of tippet breakage can thus be greatly reduced. With the light R.A.G. reel, class 5/6, the R-function allows for the fastest reaction to sudden stress when fishing with the finest tippets, preventing breakage at the decisive moment. The described R-function naturally assumes that the handle does not rotate backward when line is pulled out, so that you can touch the adjustment disc during line retrieval. In addition, the handle would have to be accelerated. It is better to keep rotating masses small.

The anti-reverse system ensures truly controlled operation. Finally, the gearing, or G-function, is a crucial aid in maintaining contact: fish that make long runs often swim back towards their opponent just as quickly. It is then difficult, with a direct drive reel (single action), not to lose contact - and thus the fish. With the help of the gearing, large lengths of line can be retrieved more quickly - contact with the fish is maintained or can be regained more quickly.
